Let us admit this...
- we are all wannabe rapunzel
- we all are suckers for cute packaging
- ... and particularly in this case , we all fell for a doting grandma, giving her grandchild a pampering head massage with Dove Elixir hair oil
The ad is perfectly framed ! It gives you all the right reasons to rush and pick this up! I am no exception and bought it somewhere in the first week of January. I was ecstatic to find out such a luxurious bottle.. and not to mention those floating rose petals (awww !!)
Price : 185 INR for 90 ml
One fine Sunday morning, I decided to start using this and gave myself a head massage. I almost praised Dove for coming up with a such a wonderful product.. but then..wait!! What are those in the Ingredients ??? * all my fancy dream bubbles started bursting at once *
Ingredients :
The very 1st Ingredient is Mineral Oil, quickly followed by Cetyl Dimethicone (silicone) in third. Also BHT !!! (i.e Butylhydroxy toluene) ~ a phenol derivative, which is suspected of having carcinogenic property !!!
Mineral Oil (by product of petroleum, with a very negligible value ) too is suspected to be carcinogenic. It has been also cited as a causative agent for contact dermatitis. Also mineral oil is much inferior than vegetable oils when it comes to prevention of hair damage.
The other ingredients were relatively ok.. but then Palm oil ??? haain ?? Since when did that become "precious"
Scroll down a bit below..... "76% mineral oil and 16% vegetable oil " !!!! *facepalm*
I bought this ??? I really bought THISSSSS ???
Yes they have mentioned almond oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, tocopheryl acetate (vit e derivative btw), rose petal extract, olive oil.. but what is the point when the total amount is only 16% . What miracle can it probably do to your hair ???
Is sunflower oil that "precious" ? and am clueless about " fruit oil" ~ please enlighten me on this !
Then came across a plethora of reviews, mentioning how bad this was *sulks more* However, there were few reviews positive (silver lining? ) on its anti hair fall properties... So, since I have already bought it, I decided to allow the product a considerable amount of time !
What I Like about Dove Elixir Rose & Almond Oil Hair Fall Rescue:
- Nothing..okay may be fancy packaging, mild fragrance, fancy bottle with some hair oil in affordable price. 'nuff said. hmph..
What I didn't Like about Dove Elixir Rose & Almond Oil Hair Fall Rescue :
- 76% mineral oil
- BHT, silicones.... and a bunch of not so "precious" oils
- Packaging is fancy.. but a heavy glass jar ain't easy to use. It often slipped out my oily hand. Once the pump dispenser had stopped working. There was no way i could unscrew the top and get the product!
- I have a greasy scalp but dry hair. This one weighed my hair down. I didn't notice any shine etc
- Did not "rescue" me from hair fall issues. No, not even to the slightest extent!
- 185 bucks down the drain
My Rating : 0/5 ( i wish to gibe negative marking)
Final Verdict : Never, ever buy this. Dove has literally "fooled" us. I think today (1st April, is the most apt day to post this)
